While it’s still a mystery as to where Amazon’s HQ2 will eventually land, recently it was announced that the e-tail giant is headed to the Dallas area with two massive shipping hubs. Our DFW real estate professionals know that employment opportunities are one reason people choose to live in a certain area, and the economy in North Texas is flourishing! What’s Amazon up to now?
In West Dallas, Amazon will be building a new distribution hub that will reportedly create 1,500 employment opportunities. The facility will receive about $2 million in economic incentives following a vote from the Dallas City Council for the more than $100 million fulfillment center. The massive shipping hub will have about 855,000 square feet, and will be located on 100 acres south of Interstate 30 near Davis Street on Chalk Hill Road.
Another shipping hub is opening south of Dallas in Wilmer, and will operate from two buildings in Southport Logistics Park across from Union Pacific Railway’s Dallas Intermodal Terminal on I-45. This $500 million project includes over one million square feet.
Officials say Amazon will take occupancy of the West Dallas facility on Chalk Hill Road on or prior to December 31, 2020. Currently there are nine Amazon distribution and sorting facilities located in the DFW area.
HQ2 may or may not end up in Dallas, but one thing is for certain – there are plenty of great career opportunities in the big D! Combined with some of the best education opportunities in the country and communities that are all about family and making new friends, it’s easy to see why so many North Texas cities are frequently found on the “best” lists.
