As DFW real estate professionals we know that when it comes to business, Texas is the place to be. For a while now we’ve all been speculating about where Amazon’s HQ2 will finally land; Austin and Dallas are hot contenders for the e-tail giant’s second headquarters, but by some accounts it may not be either of these cities. Recent news reports reveal the current leader is the Washington, D.C. area.
Of the 20 finalists for the HQ2 one will finally be awarded the economic prize, which reportedly will result in 50,000 jobs and the possibility of a $5 billion investment. Of those 20 finalists, three are actually located in the D.C. region including the District itself, Northern Virginia and Montgomery County, MD.
Earlier this month a Business Insider story revealed Amazon has increased its lobbying presence in D.C. Considering The Washington Post is owned by Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s CEO, and it seems like a slam dunk to some. Oh, and guess who one of the speakers at The Economic Club of Washington, D.C. dinner reportedly will be? Jeff Bezos. Bezos is also scheduled to be keynote speaker later this month at a D.C. conference. The evidence is stacking up!
D.C. probably makes a lot of sense as Amazon’s HQ2, and some say not to rule out Dallas or Austin just yet, as there are some strong reasons to head South to Texas. Some of these include access to capital, strong economic growth, cost of living and availability of skilled tech talent, to name a few.
Regardless of whether Dallas or Austin wins the gold, there are plenty of reasons so many career professionals and families choose to make Texas home!
