Compost Pick-Up In Dallas – Unique Subscription Service Comes To Town!

dallas

Recently a one-of-a-kind subscription service has arrived in the Dallas area, one that makes it possible for residents in certain areas to have food waste picked up. Our real estate professionals know that many in the DFW area want to do their part when it comes to the environment, and what to do with leftover foods that don’t go down the garbage disposal? Instead of throwing leftover foods into the trash where it ends up in the landfill, your food waste can go to good use with Turn Compost, a company who transforms uneaten leftover food and yard waste into compost that is used to grow more food.

According to founder of Turn Compost Lauren Clark, the amount of food thrown in the trash each week and its weight is substantial; food waste can go back into the community and the earth, growing fresh foods in local community gardens and farms. News reports claim that nearly a third of the waste that ends up in the Dallas landfill is kitchen and yard waste that is compostable.

The Turn Compost website states the service picks up food scraps around the DFW area from not only homes but businesses, restaurants and even events. Turn Compost delivers a clean bin to your home, which you can fill with leftover foods and other organic materials. The company then empties the bin, delivering the food and organic waste to local gardens and farmers who turn your food waste into compost that is nutrient-rich and ready to grow fresh food. You’re contributing to the community and the environment!

Those interested can choose to subscribe, have a one-time pickup scheduled and more. The company’s website says that all subscribers are enrolled in the Turn Compost rewards program where subscribers may choose to have finished compost delivered to their homes twice per year, elect to donate to community garden or farms, and take advantage of other benefits. The program is available to zip codes including 75204, 75206, 75214, 75218, 75228 and 75238.

Why throw leftovers into the trash to end up in the landfill when it can be used to grow fresh foods? We think this is a wonderful idea, and hope those in the DFW area will participate.

At Team Nelson our Dallas real estate professionals know the importance of not only a clean, beautiful community but those who focus on sustainability and the environment. Whether you’re looking to sell or purchase a home, give us a call today!
