Anyone who has moved into a new home knows it’s a lot of work – and exhausting. If you have recently purchased a home in the DFW area, our real estate professionals have a few tips to help make those first couple of move-in days easier and more comfortable.
Rest is one thing you’re sure going to need, so make sure you can get to the bedding easily! From pillows and sheets to blankets, unpack the bedding so that you’ll be able to get a good night’s sleep after a long day. Putting clothes in drawers and setting the entire bedroom up isn’t necessary right away. As long as you have your PJs, slippers and bedding, you can leave the more tedious work for the coming days.
Personal care items. Prescription medicines, shower essentials, your toothbrushes and other items should be packed where you can find them easily. Also be sure to label the towels, shower curtain and other toiletries/necessities you’ll need your first night in your new home.
The kitchen can be a real bugger to tackle considering all of the silverware, plates, cooking utensils, pots, pans, etc. Pull out enough silverware, plates, and glasses to serve your family for a couple of meals, along with a pan or two for meal prep. You don’t have to unload everything at once, as organizing the kitchen will take a few days. Make it easy on yourself and only worry about those few things you’ll need right away. Plug in the microwave and set up the coffee pot, and you’re ready to go.
Be sure to pack your children’s and pets favorite toys so you can locate them quickly. From security blankets to books, toys, pet food and pet toys, clearly label the items that will help keep the kids and pets occupied so you can tend to setting up house!
It’s important to make things as easy and convenient as you possibly can when moving into your new home; no need to feel like you have to do it all at once, because it is impossible and will only leave you stressed out and exhausted. Take your time, and after a week or so your home will feel like it’s all coming together.
