Flower Mound Real Estate – 2013 Interior Design Trends

We’re just a few weeks into the new year, and already the “hottest” interior design trends are popping up everywhere. With spring right around the corner, we want to help you decorate your new home in style! As Flower Mound real estate agents, we like to keep abreast of the latest trends in home design. So, what should you look for when decorating your home this year? Naturally, you want the interior of your home to be comfortable and welcoming, pleasing aesthetically not only to your guests, but to your family as well. However, if you need a few “hot” ideas, we’ve gathered some of the best!

Let’s start with color. Color sets the mood of the room, whether it’s upbeat and energetic, warm, relaxing, or soothing. According to top interior designer to the stars Martyn Lawrence Bullard, the top colors for this season are burnt orange, topaz, and emerald. Bullard recommends mixing things up with emerald, burnt orange, and eggplant. He stresses though that for those who are a bit “color shy,” black and white is always in fashion.

Furnishings and upholstery. Bullard also says that this year, comfort is in when it comes to interior design. Deep seats on furnishings with height and solid upholstery colors are in; over-scaled pillows featuring exotic designs are the perfect accessory. Other well-known interior designers say that vintage-look warm materials are hot; another favors bright, saturated hues. Sounds to us like nearly anything goes!

Brass. Who doesn’t love the warm, glowing influence of brass? A curved brass lamp makes the perfect addition to an end table; brass candlesticks dress up the mantle. Brass flower pots are ideal for the centerpiece on your dining room table, or on a shelf showcasing plants and other decor items that are your favorites.

Dipped wood furnishings and accessories. If you enjoy a unique look, accents and furnishings that appear to have been dipped in paint are popping up all over! Dip the legs of a table, bar stool, or chair, even your flower pots for a look that’s colorful and fun.

Of course it’s most important that your interior decor suits your family’s preferences and offers a relaxed atmosphere where you can “chill out” at the end of the day – but if you’re short on ideas, these will inspire you!
