According to a new survey conducted by Realtor.com, a huge percentage of buyers are willing to pay more for homes in areas with good schools (located within the district of the school they desire their children attend). In fact, more than 44% of potential home buyers said they would be willing to spend 10% more on a home based on school boundaries!
It’s clear that families put the education and safety of their children first. Some buyers polled in the survey revealed that in order for their children to attend good schools, they would be willing to trade home amenities including a bonus room, spa or pool, even easy access to shopping. While it may be surprising, the survey found that almost 9% of buyers would gladly pay up to 20% more than they have budgeted for a home as long as they can live in a desirable school district. More than half of the respondents replied that their home purchasing decision is greatly impacted by school boundaries.
