Are The Holidays A Good Time To Buy Or Sell A Home In North Texas? Yes

As experienced Flower Mound real estate agents, we know spring and summer are “hot” seasons for buying or selling homes, but what about the winter holiday season? If you’re antsy to buy your dream home, there is no reason to wait according to the folks at Zillow.

Why should you buy over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays?

Less competition. Because the seller won’t likely be getting multiple offers and bidding wars are less likely, you could get a real bargain on a home.

Quicker mortgage approval. The holiday season is typically slower for lenders, which could mean you get faster approval for a home loan. Still, shop around for the best deal, as some lenders may reduce fees to secure your business.

Home sellers mean business. The winter holiday season is a inconvenient time to sell a home, so when someone is selling there is probably a good reason. This means easier negotiating for you – and the seller may be more willing to take your offer!

More affordable homes. Home prices in the Dallas-Ft. Worth metro area are generally lower in December than in other months, and you may be able to enjoy lower interest rates as well.

Now, why should you sell a home in North Texas at the peak of the holiday season?

Those in the market for a home and who want to buy now are serious and motivated.

Those holiday decorations aren’t a deterrent, but actually help your home “show” better!

For tax purposes, some must buy a home and close prior to December 31.

Compared to last year at this time, the North Texas median home sales price is up by about 13%.

Quicker sale, because there are fewer homes on the market. Be aware that come January, the supply of homes will likely increase – which means more competition and less demand for your home.

As you can see, there are plenty of reasons to consider purchasing a home during the holiday season if you’re a buyer, or putting your home on the market if you’re a seller.
