Here’s some news that shouldn’t surprise you! According to a recent report from Texas Realtors, DFW is where 40% of newcomers to the state of Texas landed in 2017. During that year, the number of people who relocated to the Dallas-Fort Worth metro was over 230,000. DFW was the number one metro destination for newcomers, while the Houston metro came it at number two.
In determining which cities and states were highest ranking for drawing in new residents from out of state, the report analyzed migration data from U-Haul and the U.S. Census Bureau. Overall, Texas came in second as the state having most people relocating to in the U.S. Where were those new residents coming from? California first, particularly from Los Angeles. Other states sending us new residents included Florida, Louisiana, Illinois and New York.
In terms of which counties most residents relocated to from out of state, Harris County was No. 1 with Dallas County following in the No. 2 spot and Tarrant County at No. 3. Collin County came in the top 10 Texas counties at No. 6.
Why are people so drawn to the state of Texas? For many years, the state has been a top destination of corporate businesses looking to relocate. This means plentiful jobs for those desiring a great place to live along with career opportunities. In fact, a Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas report from 2018 showed that from 2000 to 2013, 300,000 jobs were created by 25,000 businesses who migrated to our great state!
The attraction is clear, considering so many businesses and people are coming into Texas from New York, California and other popular destinations. Jobs aren’t the only reason people love the state where everything’s bigger! From entertainment, family activities, sports and culture, it’s all here for you to enjoy.
